Welcome to ElectricMonk

A quiet corner of the self-hosted internet. Federated social media, email, files, documents, and collaboration tools — all running on our own hardware, under our own roof.

Electric Monk is born out of a desire of an era without algorythms and entities giving services for free so they can market to you. Instead, we want to run internet services like a community project: using volunteers and DIY infrastructure. No ads, no tracking, no algorithms deciding what you see. Just tools that (mostly) work, hosted with care.

My hope is that Electric Monk will be a place where folks can get an on-ramp to federated social media services, website hosting, and other services in an easy to consume manner. All without the need to be a technical expert.

Please note that this website is very much in a state that should be considered alpha. We lack a proper DR plan, and some data is not redundant. If you are interested in joining, please do, but be aware that we are not ready for a production environment just yet.

We would also love collaborators and homelab folks to contribute to the project by providing DR servers, or if you are passionate about hosting a particular service.

If you're a member, log in to access your services. If you'd like to join, sign up and we'll get you sorted.

“The Electric Monk was a labour-saving device, like a dishwasher or a video recorder... Electric Monks believed things for you, thus saving you what was becoming an increasingly onerous task, that of believing all the things the world expected you to believe.”

— Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency

If you haven't read it, you should. It's about a detective, some gods, and an electric monk who believes things so you don't have to.
